The Castle Pamela is New Zealand's largest and most spectacular Doll & Toy Collection housed in a huge medieval Castle, complete with moat and beautiful gardens, situated high on a hill with panoramic views of the surrounding Waikato countryside.
The Castle was built by Pamela and Kelvin Baker, with their own hands, taking 2 years of hard toil - a true testiment to love and determination. They purpose-built the castle to house their huge collection which is displayed in truly amazing scenes and settings, enjoyed by all ages, men or women, girls and boys. The big train set with its wonderful countryside, is a big hit with everyone.
The collection covers boys and girls toys from the 1800s to todays toys. It has been featured extensively on many TV programmes, including What Now; Havoc & Newsboy; Praise Be; Going, Going, Gone and My House, My Castle.
The Castle has a full cafe in the castle's Great Hall, with a Gift Shop, specialising in unique gifts. Only a 2 hour drive from Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton or Rotorua, The Castle is within 1 min. walking distance of the marvellous shopping mecca of Tirau, well-known for its boutique and antique shops.

We stumbled across Castle Pamela on our way through Tirau & popped in for a comfort stop and a coffee. My 15 year old daughter & I spent more than an hour enjoying the displays - particularly the teddy bears and the street of dolls houses, which were beautifully made with extraordinary detail. Having a coffee in the cafe, we spent another entertaining quarter hour checking out the book titles in the library. The facilities were clean and tidy, the cafe had a great range of snacks. Great place to break your journey.
