Marian Poole is a Piano Teacher and Music Critic based in Dunedin. As freelance music reviewer Marian is experienced in many styles of music of local New Zealand and overseas performers. Reviews are written with a view to being kindly honest and honestly kind. This approach is also applied to teaching piano.
Marian aims to make learning music a pleasurable experience without losing sight of the demands of technique and musicality. Her pupils are encouraged to experiment with different styles and to gain a wide appreciation of all that music has to offer.
Lessons are generally 30 minutes long but can be longer for the mature student. They are normally conducted in Marian's home in Deborah Bay, Dunedin, New Zealand, but can take place in the pupil's home in Dunedin if necessary.
Marian's musical experience is much wider than piano teaching and includes long term membership of the City of Dunedin Choir. She is currently completing her Ph.D in the Music Department of the University of Otago on "The Influence of the Second Viennese School of Composers in New Zealand 1940-1900".
