Had lunch here on Sat the 16th of August 2014. Despite having a great experience here before, I was utterly appalled by the service we received today. First it was the front of house who decided that the guest should hold the doors themselves whilst being shown the table. We didn't care too much at first. Then it was the waiter who clearly didn't like to walk since he extended his hand across the table hinting that we should pick up all the menus to give to him. We thought, all well, we won't spoil our mood. During our entree and main service they repeatedly asked us what we had ordered. This was not what I expected since Soul is meant to be a restaurant that is more on the fine dining end than a casual cafe. But what pissed me off was that when our dessert was served, the same front of house (which was a guy) obviously didn't care enough and just dumped the dessert on our table (with a clash) to the wrong person as if we had to figure out who ordered what. The redeeming factor was that food was mostly great BUT the Snapper my sister had, had a few fish scales on it and my smoked mussel soup was way too salty. I told the lady when paying for our food and all she asked was "did you tell the waiter about the fish scales?" and I thought how funny, "we were never asked once how our food was". She did not inquire further. My recommendation is that if you love great food but also love to gamble on what sort of service you receive, go to Soul. I certainly won't be going back there since I do feel that service is just as important as food when it comes to having a great restaurant experience.

Great food at Soul Bar. The staff manage a busy restaurant with a smile and the seafood I've had on my visits has been exceptional.

Went with a friend from Sydney on a beautiful Auckland evening. Such a great location with lots of buzz around and the food and service was excellent. They had a new wine waiter who matched our wines with our 2 courses perfectly. A great place to go.

Perfect location, really gorgeous atmosphere and the food was absolutely delicious. They have specials for every day of the week so you can get a really good deal any day that you go! I would definitely recommend this place. NB - They have a different menu after around 11pm or so I think? So be sure to get in before the good stuff has stopped being served!

The best spot in town to catch the glorious summer sunsets along the waters edge. You must check out the hanging baskets on the decks, something i've never seen before but they sure can pull it off! Amazing! Service was great. Very friendly and felt spoilt for choice with the menu. Great seafood selection! Theres always such a vibrant atmosphere at Soul! Nice touch being thanked by the manager as we were leaving. We'll be back!

Went to Soul last saturday night. We were walking past and thought it would be a good place to have a few drinks then dinner. spoke to the brunette at reception who was more than accomodating & very welcoming.. thought she was the Maitre de until we met him. He interrupted her and told us to "be seated or wait". obviously he didnt realise what our plans were. a little too touchy feely with my wife and spoke to the brunette very rudley, as if she wasnt competent- believe me when she was. (perhaps just my opinion, its a pecking order? -to her credit she kept smiling and didn't flinch, although i was cringing for her). after drinks in the bar, (again, great service, this time the english (i think?) barman). dinner was great. entrees good- although squid was spicier than i expected and maybe slightly undercooked the main courses were delicious (fish and pasta) we were full but just te right amount, leaving room for desert . the waiter was fantastic with wine recommendations to go with our meals. There is a really nice ambience there, upbeat, but also classic and after asking how long it had been open, regret that i had never dined there before. generally a great time. 4 out of 5. We will certainly be back.

Great location for people watching. The service is good, but you tend to only get great service if you're spending large. Cocktails and wine list are great and they do some of the best calamari in town.

Can't get a better position on a sunny Auckland day. The food is superb, wine selection great and the restaurant is beautiful. Service is a little inconsistent - I've had fab service on some visits and at other times the waiter has been a bit frosty. It's pricey but the food and atmosphere are hard to beat. If they were more consistent with delivering great service I'd be happy to give the extra star.

If your a young or old guy looking for a Cougar, this is the place to go, Soul Bar is Cougar Town on a Sat Night, with the D.J that plays dance/rave music, we saw 3 hens nights in one hour who enjoyed dancing around their handbags with mums in tow, and dressed up like.....you guessed it cats. Walking along the harbour our tummies rumble and yet we are so very picky. So many to chose from but who will be the one? I take one look then glance either side to my peers. With out a word the feeling is mutual and we walk towards the entrance. Hit with a smile, warm lights and delectable aromas! We each grin knowing we have made the right move. “Welcome , its so nice to meet you” With a day full of ill mannered business people tearing at your sides for service a fresh feeling comes and it all seems so easy to forget the days woes. A polite pause, one word said in the right way. Be sure you do what’s best for you and your soul.

After reading all the good reviews and hearing about all their awards, I thought Soul would be a great place to treat Mum for Mother's Day. We were seated on the terrace/outdoor area which was quite cramped and crowded. Being Mother's Day, we had expected this and so weren't too put off by it, however we were surprised to see that apart from the terrace, the rest of the restaurant was quite empty. The Maitre d' who seated us was unsmiling and a bit cold, and asked us if we would like still, sparkling or tap water. We asked for tap, but this took over 20 minutes to arrive. This proved typical throughout the day, with service being very slow throughout the meal. This was quite surprising since, as I mentioned earlier, the restaurant was not actually that full. The meals were unsubstatial with underwhelming flavours. My ravioli was mainly pasta with very little filling. Furthermore, the filling was cold while the pasta was hot. Definitely not worth what we paid for them. The only redeeming feature was the dessert, which was brilliant. For a more detailed review, please see Man Eating Pasta on http://maneatingpasta.blogspot.com/2010/06/soul-bar-bistro-viaduct-harbour.html

The restaurant itself is spotless and the food is delicious! However the service of the waitress on my experience was extremely poor. I had called before hand to inquire about a dish and its ingredients (as my partner has allergies) but found that the waitress sounded not only confused, bored, impatient and unwilling to answer my queries!! I was shocked and astounded! This is not what i expected from Soul bar, who are known for their superb customer service and satisfaction. It didn't help that i was later served by the same waitress (who had forgotten our earlier phone conversation). She made no attempt to clarify on the the menu and had poor product knowledge. Eventually my partner had to personally ask the chef, because our waitress had simply disappeared! Fingers crossed you don't come across this waitress!

Turned up without a reservation on a Sat night, however Maitre'd said we could have a table as long as we were out in 90 mins which was fine with us.We had the John Dory and snapper and the dishes were delicious, service was attentive without being OTT.All in all a pleasurable meal.Would recommend to friends, only slight mention of noise from bar area which as it was a Sat evening was ok.
