Located on SH27 Matamata, we are situated 11/2 - 2 hours from Auckland, 45 mins from Hamilton and Tauranga, 1 hour from Rotorua and 11/2 hours from Taupo. Big Paw has modern specially built facilities with underfloor heating. We cater for all cats and dogs with a variety of accomodation for your choice of holiday for your pet. Our units for both cats and dogs are spacious, warm and comfortable. We can accomodate both short and long term stays and can provide care for aged, post operative pets, bitches in season and entire males.
We also have a pet grooming service and a small retail shop with food and accessories available.

Big Paws Pet Lodge is Kiki and Mugs home away from home. Before discovering them I always had a stressed out filthly dirty puppy returned to me which took months to get her well. Since she has been visiting Anthony and Lea I have a happy well adjusted little girl who thinks that Lea and Anthony are just one of the extended family - Indeed they are - Super super HOme away from Home where they get to socialise and feel loved.

We live in Auckland and often holiday in Taupo, and after much trial and error with kennels both in Auckland and on the route down south, we discovered Big Paw. We've been taking our dog there a few times a year for over three years now, and we have never had a bad experience. The kennels are clean and spacious, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and the family who run the place are clearly passionate about what they are doing. The dogs there all seem happy and like they're having a good time, not stressed out or pacing. The owners always remember our dog when we arrive to drop him off or pick him up, and treat him like one of the family, giving him pats and scratches around the ears instead of being in a hurry to take him to his kennel. They are professional and thorough, but also down to earth, and treat us like friends rather than just customers. Now our extended family are also taking their dogs to Big Paw on their way to holiday in Taupo -- we've converted them! We are so impressed with their level of service that when we go on an overseas holiday this winter, we're driving down from Auckland to keep our dog at Big Paw for the month rather than risking a local kennel that we don't know. We're confident in the care our dog receives at Big Paw and we're always happy when we leave him there. I could not recommend this place more highly.
