TDH's role is three fold, namely Owner/Governance, Funder, and Provider of public health and disability services in the district.
OWNER/ GOVERNANCE
TDH has a Board and three statutory advisory committees which are responsible for the overall governance and direction of the District Health Board. The Board must govern within national frameworks that have been set by the Government.
FUNDER
The funding arm of TDH is called Te Puna Waiora Provider Gisborne. This team is responsible for assessing the health needs of the people of the district, undertaking appropriate service planning and funding health services in the area according to the level of need.
PROVIDER
Gisborne Hospital provides health and disability services for a large area of the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand, stretching from beyond Hicks Bay in the north to the Wharerata Issues Whanauora Ranges in the south. Services are provided from Gisborne Hospital, the Public Health Unit, community mental health facilities and rural health facilities, as well as directly to people in their homes.
