I've tried many Malaysian restaurants (outside of Malaysia) and Mutiara is by far the best. My husband and I were recently in Sydney and dined at their top Malaysian restaurant. The verdict - Mutiara still outclasses all others. The food is exquisite - It's aromatic, spicy, and bursting with every kind of flavour. Their beef rendang is superb but I can't go past the Aromatic Chicken. Service is great and it has a lovely homely feel. One of Auckland's finest.

This is really bad, but I only ever have the curry laksa. It's not that I'm not adventurous, it's just that I could actually eat Mutiara's fragrant, spicy, delicate and yet hearty curry laksa every day. Since I only dine here every couple of months, it's always too long since my last laksa to order anything else. My wife pretty much only orders the beef rendang. That's how good their dishes are. (I love the Tom Yum soup and have had other mains, and they're always great -- the Ikan Bakar springs to mind). But, oh my god, that laksa.) Service is outstanding, owner Roy (seriously: say hi -- he's one of the nicest people in the business) has improved the interior, and the wine list is short but adequate.

Very tasty food and friendly staff who were happy to accomodate my food allergy to nuts.
I LOVED the beef claypot and my friend loved her crispy chicken dish.
Clean surroundings and nice atmosphere...have been there three times now and loved it!

Easily the best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland and maybe anywhere. Lots of good things with a menu big enough to keep it interesting, but not so big that you suspect it's Asian mass-produced. Chan and Geoffrey provide extremely good, friendly service.

Mutiara is for me the best in food. I have been to many restaurants in Auckland over the years but their food is more than food. It really lifts my spirits. Their food is always fresh, prepared with care and very tasty.
The owner Roy ! and his staff ( Chan!) are so friendly and really take care of you. I love their beef sate ,rang dang ,gado gado and crispy chicken.
Oh I could go on and name just about any dish. I recommend Mutiara
unreservedly.

Having lived in Malaysia for many years, I am always on the lookout for good food from the area. Mutiara is far and away the best I have come across in New Zealand. One of my yardsticks has always been the classic Rendang Daging and Mutiara's is simply the best I've ever tasted. I just keep going back and back and I have recommended it to so many friends and clients. It is reasonably priced, the staff are an absolute delight, and the food is exceptional. This remains absolutely my favourite Asian restaurant of any kind in Auckland.

The food was great and cheap. The staff is friendly but the three waiters couldn't take our orders right for the 5th time!
The room is just unbeliveably small for that many tables and customers so the waiters had to balance their trays full of food above our heads as they went by every other minute or so.

Love this restaurant. They have very friendly staff and great food. I have tried both the meat and vegetarian dishes, and both leave a lasting impression. If you're like me, you probably want to ask for a mild version, as the chef knows how to put a spicey kick into the food. Whatever you decide on, make sure you add a roti on the side.

Auckland's greatest Malaysian treasure, with food to die for. Try their Ayam Kapitan (a chicken curry) or their Beef Rendang, and/or their double-fried beans. The food is first class and the staff efficient and friendly. Roy, the owner, unless he's too busy in the kitchen, will probably come to find out what you thought of your meal; but you will have loved it thanks to the competent advice of Chan and Geoffrey.
