Always had well meaning staff there who were nice people but due to the reliance on locum doctors who were only ever there to make some quick locuming money, the overall outcome is pretty terrible. No one with med quals wants to be in westport if they dont have to be. Doctors that come here are here for a reason like they have promised to come here after being allowed back on the medical register after being struck off, or they have a gap in between jobs they need to fill for a wee while or they are from overseas and want a quick work permit or the are obliged or compelled by some training regimen. the average nurse age is about 62, not that anything is wrong with that but its indicitave of the desirability of westport as a destination for most of the population. There are several health problems in this district and the govt only gives the bare minimum resources to deal with them. Anything serious and the govt's answer is the good ol chopper ride to some hopefully competent professionals with the skills and facilities to do the job. A serious accident near westport will quite often mean death and a bunch of excuses. I feel sorry for them all. Its not their fault.
