The Nelson School of Music was founded in 1894 and it is the oldest independent music school in the country.
Today the School makes a major cultural contribution to the Nelson community. 80,000 people visit the School each year to attend courses, enjoy high profile concerts and workshops, see international and local acts, take classes and musical tuition.
Like to launch your career as a professional musician? The Nelson School of Music delivers an acclaimed, 36-week Contemporary Music Performance Course which is NZQA, registered and accredited.
The Contemporary Music Performance Course is a practical, hands-on tertiary level programme of one year's full-time study specifically designed to prepare musicians for work in the music industry. The focus is on rock, pop and related music styles. Other aspects of the music industry are also catered for. We are an accredited course provider.
Community Classes
We host numerous community classes from pre-schooler music experience to the training orchestra for adults. Join in the fun and enjoyment.
Individual Tuition
Take up the flute, clarinet, guitar, violin, piano or choose from the many other tuition options. We have over 60 accredited teachers waiting to inspire you.
