At a massive 830 sq metres the new showroom is twice the size of the original Asko store in Victoria Street. This means the range of furniture, and homewares will be greatly expanded. "In anticipation of the bigger space we increased our purchase of overseas furniture during the past few months and acquired additional warehouse space to accommodate the overflow,' Graeme says. "So on opening day there will be so much more for our customers to choose from."
Grame had some particular specifications for the new space - it had to have a polished concrete floor to show off furniture to best advantage; it had to have a suspended ceiling to create a more intimate ambiance and it had to have air-conditioning and heating, which the old brick building in Victoria Street did not have. "We have fulfilled our vision of a modern contemporary store to complement the modern contemporary range of homeware and furniture we stock."
Over its years of trading since 1984 Asko has built up a well-deserved reputation for its quality kitchen products. "We stock all the leading brands of cookware - Scanpan and KitchenAid are just two examples - because our aim is to do all we can to help our customers in the kitchen." You can expect to see an increase in the range of cookware, as well as in products for the bathroom and the bedroom.
The furniture range will be different too. "We can now stock outdoor furniture that we didn't have the room to display previously. And as well as our usual dining and lounge furniture, we will also have a wider selection of occasional furniture, such as coffee tables, consoles and occasional chairs".
Much of the furniture is now imported from China. "We carefully select reputable manufacturers and visit their factories to undertake quality checks, so our customers can be assured they are getting the best designs and quality at competitive prices."
Graeme and his staff look forward to welcoming customers into their new store. There is no doubt it will look spectacular with that characteristic Asko flair for presentation that we know so well.
