Boulcott Street Bistro
The Boulcott Street Bistro has been serving Wellington since 1991. The bistro is located in a beautiful Victorian house built in 1876 and known as Plimmer House.
Our philosophy is to treat guests as if they were coming into our home. The menu, always innovative, healthy and satisfying is complimented with a comprehensive wine list that features many wines by the glass.
Cuisine Magazine
"Impulse dining is no problem at this enduring favourite, thanks to the policy of no evening bookings. It's 'first in first served'. The wooden house built in the 1870s is dwarfed by surrounding buildings but chef Rex Morgan's inventive cuisine is undiminished. Some classics are included in his eclectic menu."
Private Dining
The Krug Room is located above the main dining room. The Krug Room can accommodate parties from 10 to 16 guests. Menus can be designed to suit all occasions. Groups less than 10 can book The Krug Room.

Decided to treat my husband - we have recently moved from Christchurch and we are huge foodies and knew Boulcott had a great reputation....well we were not disappointed. All started off with a glass of bubbles at the bar - really friendly, not over the top waiting staff. The food was impeccable and everything just melted in your mouth - like the fact that they provide delicious wine by the glass - so you don't feel compelled to buy a bottle! We are going to try and go more regularly as I know it won't disappoint.

I have now been here twice, and both meals were faultless. The service is excellent and the setting cosy (quite cosy - but it's a bistro so that's to be expected!). I wouldn't hesitate to go back again. The meats here are generously portioned, melt in your mouth and are cooked to absolute perfection - it's not often that a medium rare steak is just that.

Was recommended this restaurant by the place I was staying, and was glad of it. Everything was top notch, couldn't fault a thing. Great to see old heritage sites being utilised and enjoyed too.

I was staying just up on the Terrace and was recommended this restaurant for lunch and was not disappointed. The setting is an old historic cottage and very easy on the eye. Inside, everything from the service through to the table water was fantastic. Highly recommend the lamb shank and the fish of the day.

We had lunch as part of Wellington on a Plate. Can't think of anything that could be improved. Service was top notch. Food was excellent, a great range of flavours in every mouthful. Atmosphere is great in this classic wooden building. Had a great time.

Still one of my favourite Wellington restaurants, and a guaranteed great place to take visitors. I introduced the the bistro to some colleagues from Sydney and they loved everything about it - food, service, wine, atmosphere and of course the building. I felt a little proud!

A classic bistro menu, prepared simply and never fails to impress. Chef, legendary Rex Morgan, has incorporated a local flavours which bring a special twist to the traditional fare. We were given a gazpacho type soup as an appetizer, which was flavoured with the Kawa kawa leaves, a unique and really tasty start to our dinner. I've eaten here several times and highly recommend as place for both an intimate dinner or a group.

Had a great night out in this lively little restaurant set among the high rises of the cbd. Fantastic food and wine, and efficient service. Would definitely go back.

I've eaten at the bistro a number of times, and it's a sure winner for a special night out, or when you want to impress. The ambience is lovely, the wine list will satisfy the most fussy of diners, and the food and service is excellent. Quite pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Went with 'visa wellington on a plate' lunches. So had the set menu $35 per head which was a entree and a main with a glass of wine, good price for a flash meal. Lovely building, sadly interor looking a bit tired. It was the last Friday of the 2 week event so was busy, i think we were the last 2 set menus. Green salad looked nice, cauli soup more cream than cauli. My partners sirlion looked and apparently tasted good. My risotto looked great but was very salty! I like salt and was nearly too much for me, and could of been a bit creamier. Sadly it must of been a long day for our waiter cos he was somewhat gruff and ignored us a couple of times, which was a shame cos at the end of it the food was ok for a set special, and was going to get 4 stars. The other waiter, she was lovely and very welcoming.

Have eaten here several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. During certain hours (straight after work etc) the atmosphere can be a little overwhelming with lots of self important business people showing off and pretending they are masters of the universe, but you cannot choose your clientelle. The food is fantastic and the wine selection is varied and well priced without being too overwhelming. Great service, great food......shame about the lawyers and advertising execs....
