19th March 2012 Star Performance! My wife and I turned up on Valentines Day at 5pm without a reservation.... They managed to squeeze us in with the proviso that we would be departing before 8pm - all fine, but a contractor had dug up a power cable in Nelson and a power cut... one of the busiest days of the year and no power - no eftpos - nothing. So they gave us some lovely bread and a couple of glasses of wine (The Wooing Tree- most appropriate for Valentines Day and delicious) The power came back on around 20 minutes/half an hour later and we were asked if we wanted a la carte or "trust the chef" along the lines of a degustation menu. So that is what we chose. They started with oysters followed by proscuitto & buffalo mozarella with fresh figs, then fried white bait, seared sea run salmon and then roasted beef ribeye. Every dish was superbly prepared and presented. Given the "Masterchef moment" with the powercut at the beginning of the evening it was a total credit to the outstanding professionalism of the team. Oh and the service was pretty good too :-)
