For the love of pets!
When we opened our first store in Christchurch in 1996, our dream was to create a true pet superstore that could offer the complete pet experience, and become the champion of responsible pet ownership.
We’ve grown a lot since then! The Animates experience can now be enjoyed in 15 stores, where pet lovers will find everything they need for their pets – food, toys, educational books, glossy mags, health products, puppy training, loads of good advice and a constant supply of pets. Most stores have an in-house veterinary service. Some have a grooming parlour.
Since 1996, we’ve introduced pet owners to all sorts of regular Animates events including the annual Pet Fashion Parade, Pet Fun Days, Aqua Fun Days, Pet Photos with Santa, Puppy Play School, and heaps of school holiday activities.
Fantastic staff and a dedication to customer service saw two thirds of our stores nominated as finalists in the 2004 Top Shop Awards.
We often say that visiting Animates is a bit like a free trip to the zoo! If you’ve never been to one of our stores, why not pack the family into the car, and come in for a look. If you have pets, be sure to bring them with you!
11th June 2011 Unfortunately I have just had an experience with Animates attempting to return a fish tank that was leaking (and under guarantee). They insisted I had to purchase another one and they would send the 'faulty' one back to the manufacturers (China) and they would decide if I got a refund. I pointed out that travelling with the tank would mean they could suggest any damage occurred during transit which they agreed was possible. My gripe is that the sales assistant knew they had a problem with these tanks I wasn't the first to return one, so therefore they knew it was a product fault but they were still unwilling to show customer service by offering a replacement for a faulty product. I went elsewhere I won't be shopping there again.
