Osteopathy is a hands-on form of manual therapy with similarities to both physiotherapy and chiropractic. Osteopaths diagnose causes of pain or discomfort and use an assortment of techniques such as massage and stretching of muscles, and gentle movement of joints, to relieve pain and restore proper function to the body.

In New Zealand, Osteopaths study full-time for five years and require registration with the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand before being allowed to practice, so they're well-trained and regulated. Osteopaths are also primary health care practitioners (so there's no need to get a doctors referral first), are able to refer clients for imaging or to specialists, and are fully accredited ACC providers.
