Absolutely delicious dinner at Foxglove! Normally a waterfront spot I visit for work functions and friends birthdays, where the canapes and good cocktails never fail to impress. I thought I would treat my wife for our anniversary dinner, last Sunday.

The Maitre D was friendly and welcomed us warmly into the restaurant, where we were seated at a lovely table next to the fire. Cocktails off their house cocktail list were ordered, I had a gingerbread sour and my wife, a Lady Lucy, both very tasty. Our waitress was attentive and bubbly, an Australian girl who knew the menu well and made the evening the more enjoyable.

The menu seemed to offer something for everyone, which I liked and then there was a Sunday roast special, which included a glass of wine for $30 - which had me sold. So for starters we had the arancini and the soup, which I couldn't fault. For mains I had the roast beef and my wife the Venison - being from the UK, I can say this was an excellent roast, even down to the Yorkshire pudding! The venison was also cooked to perfection, rare just how it should be cooked and the kumara fondant was delicious too. Then for dessert we ordered two and shared, on recommendation from the waitress - a whittakers chocolate pudding which was bought to the table then hot milk was poured over it by the waitress and the centre melted in front of our eyes. And also the ginger loaf...I can honestly say these were some of the best puddings I have had in Wellington.

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening, I will definitely recommend to friends. The only fault I had was that the wine list didn't offer much from Martinborough, but this is just down to my personal taste and apparently is something that is set to change in the next couple of months - which will give me another reason to go back.
