No 7 Balmac

We were on holiday and Dunedin and were recommended to come here - we were not disappointed. A lovely ambience for a dinner for two, the staff were knowledgable, friendly without being pushy, a nice wine list too. And best of all, the food was divine. Highly recommend the chocolate dessert, oh and the duck, that was delicious too.

Went there for lunch on a Friday with my partner and 2 children. The woman at the counter told us rudely to just sit where-ever. Our waitress came over, and seemed annoyed that our baby in pram seemed to be in her way (they never offered a high-chair, which from reading other reviews I see that they have them and could have). We got our burgers and chips, the burgers were great, but the chips were a tad burnt. Our waitress dropped the food off, then was back about 1 min later to ask us how the meal was - we hadn't even put anything in our mouths at that stage. When we finished, another waitress spotted our finished plates and rushed over to clear the table and she was very nice, its a pity we didn't have her service for the whole time we were there, it would have made the whole experience a lot better.

Went to No7 for Sunday Brunch had the burger it was OK though not great the chips (at an extra charge) were soggy, to be honest you can get better and cheper in the Octagon!. Atmosphere was good, service was good but a little slow. All round nothing special at a highish price.

All is good again No 7 Balmac. I have been assured by the owner that our one bad experience was an aberration. We look forward to many more visits!

My wife and I have enjoyed No 7 Balmac for morning coffee and a scone on a regular basis and an occasional dinner. In our experience food was very good and service and atmosphere was excellent - until this morning. The coffee service was slow, mostly because walk-in customers were being served first. As to atmosphere: the floor was being swept and multiple flies were buzzing around. The final blow was when the barista ran his hands through his greasy hair at the expresso machine. I walked up to the counter and asked him to wash his hands before he made our coffees in the presence of another employee (possibly the shift manager). He looked at me blankly and continued without hesitation. My wife and I walked out. It pains me to write this because we love to support our local businesses, but really there is no excuse for this sort of service and treatment. Please ignore this review if the owner can verify that the barista in question has been disciplined or fired.

Went here for a dessert date with my girlfreind. top-notch, been back a number of times, getting different desserts, and always come away satisfied. Great atmosphere, great place, great staff, dont have any faults. Definately on my highly reccomended list.

Went here for a birthday diner with a group of friends. All of the food was fatastic - couldn't fault it. Great environment. Best of all was the staff - fantastic service, very accomodating and friendly, answered all our questions about the menu, very attentive. A really nice experience. I would go there again!!!
