As a performer over the last ten years I have worked in many different musical settings: jazz, folk, blues, funk, improvised music, Indian classical, Serbian gypsy music, and original projects such as Interplay Trio and Onomatopoeia. From Acoustic and Electric Guitar to 4, 5 & 8 String Banjo and Cigar Box Slide Guitar, I have a wide sound palette to draw upon.
I have also composed and performed for critically acclaimed international theatre shows such as Krishnan's Dairy, The Candlestick Maker and The Dentist's Chair:
"Each slow twang of his guitar resonates with an inescapable loneliness" Today (Singapore)
I recently composed performed and musically directed Indian Ink's Latest play - The Dentist's Chair:
"Marvellously Gritty Songs" - Dominion Post
"Splendidly Creepy Songs" - The Listener
"Haunting" - Theatreview
My study of classical guitar and Bmus in jazz has provided me with a solid understanding of theory and performance, which supports all my projects.
As a teacher I encourage my students to play the music they love, while underpinning my lessons with a foundation of knowledge and practice.
Guitar is one of the easiest instruments to pick up and perhaps the hardest to play at an advanced level. Fundamentals taken as a given on other instruments are often neglected on the guitar, so in my lessons I emphasise these "blind spots".
I try to instil in the student a desire to explore their instrument, to see these fundamentals as not mere abstractions to "get over with", but rather as windows into making music.
I have experience teaching people of all ages, levels of accomplishment, and musical styles. I get great satisfaction helping students grow musically.
