An icon on Northland's horizon and 23 km off the north east coast of New Zealand, the Poor Knights Islands are washed by a warm current that sweeps down from the Coral Sea. Water temperatures are warmer and visibility is clearer than on the New Zealand Coast. From soft corals to encrusting sponges, from vibrant anemones to ecklonia kelp forests, from hundreds of mating sting rays to gorgonian fans, from sandy bottoms to wall drop offs, a dive at the Poor Knights is a once-in-a-lifetime experience; very different to coral reef diving or diving on the New Zealand Coast.
