The Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust is a charitable Trust which manages the restoration of the 3,400 hectares of native forest on Maungatautari in the Waikato.

A pest-proof fence around the bush edge of the mountain creates a barrier to pests to provide a safe haven for a variety of New ZealandÃ¢??s most endangered wildlife.

Visitors are welcome to visit the two specially-built enclosures to see this internationally significant project in its infancy. With regenerating bush and an increased number of native birds this project is already a delight to those who enjoy native forest walks.
