Also being a girl, i think it is very important for woman to learn martial arts, so they can defend themselves in any situation. I have done karate for the past 16 years and very experianced in this. But Since joining BJJ i have a new found passion. BJJ is fun great exercise and has a great instructor. BJJ is great, you can use your oponants strength and momvement against them no matter what size you are. BJJ has a great supportive atmosphere and i would recomend this club to anyone. Best club ever.

I have trained at GSW for the last year and a half. Having trained with world-class BJJ competitors half a globe away, and with about eight years' training both given and received in various traditional martial arts, I can confirm that Geoff is without a doubt one of the most thorough, technical and effective trainers I have had the pleasure of learning from.
He will not only give you the finished, ready to implement technique, but break it down into every step along the way that needs to be recognised, understood and absorbed. That, coupled with the genuinely supportive and friendly atmosphere at the club, has made GSW my second home on a journey I am enjoying immensely.
The comparison with chess is often made in martial arts, and as with chess, it will take quite some time to learn the rules of engagement and recognise the traps you can fall into: seekers of instant gratification need not apply.

As a girl, I wanted to learn a martial art to be safer when I'm travelling alone. Turns out Bjj is the perfect sport to pick up if you have that in mind. It's like a game of chess, if you watch what your opponent is doing, you can use Bjj techniques to come out in control, even if you're much smaller. GSW has been a great place to train, everyone's super welcoming and helpful. There are heaps of classes a week and I never want to miss a single one cause seeing everyone there is so much fun.

BJJ has a "hard-core" reputation. But what you get at GSW is not a bunch of people trying to beat you up to prove how tough they are, and it's not a place where nothing can really be practised because it's "too deadly".
Instead you get a group of guys and girls working to learn effective techniques in a systematic way, then try them out on each other in an atmosphere that is friendly and supportive but can still push you as hard as you choose to go.

I came to GSW vaguely interested in what is BJJ, with no previous experience in martial arts, -actually I'd been to a couple of other martial arts classes and hated it.
Geoff's teaching is accesable and fun -with none of the pretense that had put me off other classes. The culture at GSW is friendly, inclusive and relaxed. Experienced members are generous with their advice and encouragement.
I now have a passion for BJJ, a great crew of friends to hang with, and the real-world skills in self-defence are a bonus.

GSW is a super relaxed club with a culture of learning not spanking. I trained on & off for a couple of years and I've watched it grow huge. The big numbers reflect the consistently strong instruction, awesome facility and great culture. There's a lot of good players in the club but, even though I'm a small female, I always felt safe. It's free to try so if you're thinking about it, don't hesitate, do it!
