For Coeliac's sufferers - it is important to know that whilst this fish and chip shop (as lovely as they are) offer Gluten Free batter, they still use the same oil as non Gluten Free food therefore not suitable for Coeliac's suffers.

I have been going to the Chip Basket for the last few months and have to recommend their Gourmet Vegetarian burger, it is by far one of the best I have had from a fish and chip shop. They have nice fish also and my partner really likes their homemade shrimp, corn and coriander fritters - all reasonably priced.

I have been going to the chip basket for some time now and have found the quality to be very good. The new owner had worked in previous takeaways for other people and may have learnt some different ways, after a bit of a non inspiring start the new owner is now serving consistent quality food.

they do a very nice thin Gluten Free batter made with rice flour and even wrap the chips separately from any gluten containing products. Made special mention of which items contained gluten when I made my order which were for someone else so didn't need to be GF. The homemade fish cakes (NOT GF) were very yummy too

Hi, revising my earlier review, latest fish from new owners is thin, dry, and the crumbed batter is too salty. Tried a couple of times to be sure but not a fan anymore.

It's worth going here just for the crumbed snapper - really really good. I tried the battered one first and it was ok but similar to other places that do fresh not frozen - but the crumbed version is really quite special.

The Chip Basket is the ONLY takeaway F&C shop on the North Shore that caters for people with Celiac Disease, who have to eat Gluten Free. The foods are cooked in a separate vat ensuring that there is no chance for cross-contamination. There are 3 choices of Fish, cooked in either batter or crumbs for non-GT, although the GF Batter on the fish was nice and crisp and not fatty at all. After 12 years of not being able to enjoy F&C with the family... I am glad this establishment has taken the step to cater for Celiac customers - well done!

Me and my girlfriend are big fans of fish 'n chips so thought we would try this place. When we walked in we were suprised to see "Ivan" who owned "The Codfather" in Birkenhead. I had the chicken burger (which was HUGE) and my girlfriend had crumbed fish and chips. It was FANTASTIC! We've been back 2-3 times now (at busy and non-busy times) and the service, speed and quality were spot on everytime. Despite what the husband and wife thought in the other review we highly recommend it to everyone interested :)

My husband and I thought we would try The Chip Basket, the first time was nice, the batter was crispy and the chips also crispy. The only downfull I would have to comment about is the oil taste of chips, either canola or similar, havent experienced this before anywhere. Other than the oil, we really enjoyed it was thought we would get it for our weekly fish and chip Friday night dinner. The next time we were really diasppointed, the batter was tough and rubbery, the chips very soft and still with the oily taste. Decided not to go there again.
