Classic Country Accommodation on the western side of the South Island's Southern Alps between Greymouth and Hokitika on the seacoast and set in expansive gardens featuring floral, herbaceous and unique NZ native plants.
As we are only a short drive from scenic lakes and rivers, Hokitika arts and artesans, the Glaciers, the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, Shantytown or the Cape Foulwind seal colony, what a great place the Homestead is to centre yourselves for a few days and take day-trips to these places of interest.
The Homestead was originally built in 1874 and served as the local Post office from 1880 to 1970. The guest rooms ares named after local historical places around the Homestead and each one features extensive use of fine native timbers complemented by classic colours and elegant furnishings throughout.
We can offer you a choice of 5 elegant ensuite guestrooms for your comfort. There are SuperKing/Twin, Queen or Twin bed configurations available to suit your needs. A Self-contained, self-catering serviced Apartment, with 2 separate bedrooms, is available and would suit families of up to 5-6 persons.
Evening dinners of Classic Country cuisine and organic vegetables from the Homestead gardens complement your stay and are available by prior arrangement. You may even like to help Pauline to gather the vegetables for the table if interested.
Family, Maori Cultural Storytelling can be enjoyed at 6.30 pm in the guest lounge, where you can experience the older histories of Awatuna prior to the enjoying the evening dinner .
The seabeach is ony 3 minutes walk away and you can experience watching the sun sink into the arms of the sea at day's end with no-one else in sight.
For those with motoring history interests, there are Classic vintage Morris 8 cars on site at the Homestead and you may even get a spin in one!
Some sheep, 2 horses, a cat and a friendly, small dog called Poppy, complement your experience and pleasure whilst staying with us.
