Indian Restaurants in Canterbury

I am usually hesitant to trying new restaurants especially when it's not yet fully established with any word-of-mouth recommendations and has no reviews posted (up until now!). But I decided to take my wife there for dinner, who is also an Indian food lover. The moment we walked in we were greeted by who I suspect was the restaurant manager, who was courteous, warm and welcoming. We were seated by the window as per my request when I made the booking. My initial thoughts was that the restaurant was a little small, however, the place very quickly grew on us after taking in the warm and cosy surroundings. The authentic artwork and use of colour on the walls and Indian music gently playing in the background added to the atmosphere. We especially love the very cool designer-made tables, and were very pleased with the personalised level of service that typically only comes with dining in a smaller restaurant. We ordered a Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Malasa, with Garlic Nans, and were quite impressed when they arrived to the table within 10 or so minutes of the order being taken. The food was glorious, very tasty and good quality. From the very first bite, me and my wife looked at each other and nodded in agreement by the superb taste of the food. The Garlic Nans were also very fresh and tasty, with a perfect amount of fresh garlic and butter rubbed over the bread, and worked well with the meal. After a few minutes, the manager walked over and asked us if we were enjoying our meals and we told him it was excellent. I like restaurants that do that because they care about customer satisfaction and it presents an opportunity for the customer to raise an issue (if need be), however, of course we didn't need to do that as we were delighted with the food and service. My wife and I are definitely going back again! The food was fantastic, the service exceptional, and although we did enjoy the atmosphere the only thing was that I was conscious of my conversation with my wife being so easily overheard by the couple sitting reasonably close to us at the next table. I guess this is one of the downsides of dining in a smaller establishment. However, it didn't matter too much as we didn't go there expecting a table in complete privacy. They also have a website to view the menu and to make online bookings, and they also offer a 20% discount on takeaways.

People where wondering where Iam on this week end. Nice food specially mouth-watering Chicken Tenali & Lamb Handi with garlic naans always top of the list. Always the best keep it guys.

Possibly the best Indian mean I have eaten - I assume Corianders in Hanmer Springs is associated to Corianders in Christchurch. Service fantastic, food absolutely devine.

After a recommendation from a friend, my wife and I arrived at the restaurant. There was a choice of tables including one next to a fish tank (are fish tanks the current rage?). As the novelty of watching fish swim had worn off (even though it was a biiger tank than the last place we dined at) we sat further away. Overall very nice food, a helpful waiter who knew what he was talking about and moderate prices. Good place to bring a group.

Went there a few years ago, was absolutely brilliant! Every time I have friends arrive to Christchurch I would take them there and make immediate converts to good authentic Indian food. Such a shame it's closed at the moment, but hope to see it open up again as soon as possible!

My partner, two year old and I recently went to Indian Sumner in Papanui for dinner, after purchasing a voucher on a daily deal site. We ordered a meal each and some drinks. The waitress (also owner) suggested my son might like a Mango Lassi. He LOVED it! The meal was delicious, I really can't fault it. It is the best Indian meal I have had. It was cooked perfectly, was a generous size, and had just the right amount of kick. My partner is usually very fussy when it comes to spice as he likes it quite hot but there were no complaints from him. The naans were beautiful too. The service was fantastic! The meals came out pretty quickly. The waitress was very friendly and commented on what a good boy my son was, which was nice. She was even lovely when in his eagerness my son spilt his Mango Lassi all over the floor. I will definitely be going back again! They also do takeaways, which we have since got numerous times.
