This backpackers is in a good location in the centre of town and offers reasonable priced backpacker accommodation. Unfortunately our stay was marred by a number of problems with the hygiene of the premises, poor design features and noise. The loud bar attached to the backpacker makes sleep virtually impossible. We stayed on a Sunday (presumably a quieter night) and weren't able to get to sleep until 3:15am! The bars next door are also very loud. A small crowd of revelers was present in the kitchen until well into the night drinking and playing loud music. Our room was too dirty. There was snot on the wall above the bed. About 20-30 mosquitoes were stuck dead on the blind. There were also a lot of flies lurking about the hallways and around the piles of dirty laundry at the base of the elevator. The kitchen was filthy. The sliding door between our bedroom and ensuite was almost impossible to move. For some reason the bed was on loose rollers meaning that if one was to as much as turn over the bed would roll across the bedroom. Flimsy bedside tablets were placed either side of the bed. If one was to place anything on them they would collapse. I'm sorry to have to say this but this is the worst accommodation experience I have ever had in New Zealand.
