Wining & Dining in Methven

A wonderful icon in NZ history! This great hotel is still very popular and has great ambience. We appreciated not only the welcome via the internet but the warm welcome on arrival. All the staff were introduced by name. Our room was comfortable with a top King size bed. All facilities were shared but immaculate. The upstairs hall was a great photo option with me as was the upstairs verandah. The restaurant was all we could have wished for and the food and service absolutely tops! Couldn't recommend it enough to anyone out of the ski season!

When something as simple as coffee can be done so badly its a surprise this place had anyone in it. From the moment my wife and I entered, we were treated as peasants!!! Quite a simple order for 2 coffee's, 2 Bacon & Egg Pies and a Pumpkin & Feta scone you would expect to wait maybe 15 minutes maximum. After 25 mins waiting we finally received a plain scone with two measly knobs of butter and two extremely average, watered down bowls of what they call coffee. When we asked for the pumpkin scone we ordered it was a big hassle and obviously our fault we did not order what they wanted to serve. After finishing our bowls of watered down milk we then waited another 10 minutes before we received our pies. These almost went to the wrong table as they had no idea what table ordered what. From observation it seemed that the younger clientele(by younger I mean anyone under 35) were all made to wait longer for there meals and drinks. The staff were extremely rude and need a good lesson in customer service. We did not see one of them smile until we were walking out the door, too little to late for me. Will definitely not be returning!!!!
