Fine Dining Restaurants in Dunedin City

I thought I would leave a comment about my bad experience at this restaurant. I got a Grabone coupon $15 worth $30 meal and we went for dinner. When I called to make a booking the day before the lady told me I could book for anytime on Saturday night well that should have been my hint that wasn't a good restaurant. Anyways we got there on Saturday at 7pm to an empty restaurant there was only one table occupied, that should have been my second hint. The staff came over and gave us the Menu she wasn't neither friendly nor unfriendly just average I guess. She came back a few minutes later and we placed our orders. We ordered garlic bread for entree about 25min later the bread arrived it was warm on the outside as soon as cut it we realised it was completely frozen inside. We then waited for another 10min until the female staff returned to our table again and we told her the bread was frozen. She apologized but we had to suggest that she removed from the bill which she agreed. At 7:50pm my meal arrived I had ordered the Salmon dish which looked ok. We then waited for another 10min until my boyfriend's meal arrived. As soon as he looked at the meal he said it wasn't what he ordered. He had ordered something called 'mixed grill' which suppose to be chicken, beef and tofu. It arrived chicken, bacon and cauliflower. He had asked to replace the rice with kumara mash and it was so hot when it arrived that he couldn't taste it. Funny enough a few minutes before we heard the microwave sound and he said 'ha I bet that's my food' and we are pretty sure he was right. My salmon was edible so once we finished we just decided to leave immediately. I wanted to complain but my boyfriend was just too upset with the whole experience. He just ignored the lady when she asked if everything was fine with the meal and I replied it was ok. So overall a horrible experience the worst restaurant we ever been in Dunedin and we are not going back or recommending to anyone. We spent around $25 with his meal about $7 with soft drinks (as they didn't have a license to sell alcohol) plus the Grabone coupon which was $15. Almost $50 in a horrible meal definitely waste of our time and money.

Having read many good reviews I was looking forward to having a meal here on my first visit to NZ. I was not disappointed. The service was excellent. We were also assisted well in choosing a local wine. The food lived up to expectations. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My only disappointment was that we swapped our deserts halfway through, I preferred my own choice, we should have tried each others first and finished off with our own choice. I can see why many have returned to eat again at this restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant.

Loved the atmosphere of this place, had a great feel about it. I didn't like the way you had to leave your table after reading the menu and go up and order as the place felt too 'upper class' for that. Meals were resonably priced, i had the chicken burger and fries, the fries were cooked to perfection but the piece of chicken in the burger was too big and it overpowered all the other flavours and ended up tasting like plain chicken and bread. My family also had the seafood chowder and raved about and and the service was wonderfull. Thanks Black Dog, will definatly come back

A good basic luncheon family meal served reasonably quickly.Pork was nicely cooked,and a good variety of vegtables.A good pub meal

Best Banoffee Pie this side of banana-caramel land! Worth the drive to Port Chalmers just to try it.

We had our sons graduation dinner there, and I would like to say its well worth the drive down there. The meal was delicious. The girl that served us was very friendly and obliging. The atmosphere was awesome. I especially loved the desserts and would highly recommend eating there.
